In short

Ants Creation built the Colombo International Book Fair’s first ticketing system, introduced at the 2026 Book Fair to reduce long queues at the entrance. Visitors buy tickets online in advance or at on-site counters, receive QR e-tickets, and are scanned in at the gates, with every sale and entry recorded in one system.

The challenge

What did the Book Fair need?

The Colombo International Book Fair drew long queues of visitors waiting to get in. The Book Fair decided to introduce a ticketing system for the first time at its 2026 edition, to shorten those queues and move visitors through the entrances faster.

What we built

What does the ticketing system do?

One custom-built system covers the whole visitor journey, from buying a ticket to walking through the gate. Ants Creation’s own team designed and built it for the Book Fair.

Online ticket purchase

Visitors buy their tickets online before they arrive, so many skip the ticket counter altogether.

QR e-tickets

Every ticket is issued as a QR e-ticket that the visitor shows at the entrance.

Gate scanning

Staff at the entrances scan each QR e-ticket to let visitors in, and every entry is recorded.

On-site counter sales

Counters at the venue sell tickets in the same system, so online and on-site sales are recorded together.

Common questions

Event ticketing systems, answered.

What is an event ticketing system?

An event ticketing system sells tickets, issues them, usually as QR e-tickets, and checks them at the entrance, all from one record. The system Ants Creation built for the Colombo International Book Fair handles online purchase, on-site counter sales and gate scanning together.

How does a ticketing system reduce queues?

Visitors who buy online in advance skip the ticket counter, and each QR e-ticket is checked with a single scan at the gate. At the Colombo International Book Fair, this is how the 2026 ticketing system reduced the long queues at the entrances.

Can visitors still buy tickets at the venue?

Yes. The Book Fair’s counters sell tickets through the same system, so visitors who did not buy online can still get in, and online and on-site sales are recorded together.

Is the ticketing system a ready-made product?

No. It is a custom build, designed and developed by Ants Creation’s own team for the Book Fair. We build custom software in Sri Lanka when an organisation needs a system shaped around its own event or process.

Can Ants Creation build a ticketing system for our event?

Yes. Tell us about your event, how many visitors you expect, how you sell tickets today and how people enter, and we will recommend the right next step. Quotes are free.
