Internal & External Network Penetration Testing in Sri Lanka

Ants Creation provides internal and external network penetration testing in Sri Lanka. Our own security team tests your network from the internet, as an outside attacker would, and from inside, as someone with a foothold such as an infected laptop would, looking for exposed services, weak passwords, missing updates and routes between systems. It suits organisations with offices, servers or internet-facing systems. One re-test is included.

Overview

What is network penetration testing?

Network penetration testing is an authorised, simulated attack on your network. An external test starts from the internet, the way an outside attacker would. An internal test starts from inside your network, the way someone with a foothold, such as an infected laptop, would. Ants Creation (Pvt) Ltd’s own security team carries out both, under a written authorisation and an NDA.

We look for exposed services, weak or default passwords, missing updates, and settings that let an attacker move from one system to the next.

You receive a report with each finding rated by severity and the steps to fix it, and one re-test after the fixes.

What is included

What does a network penetration test cover?

External testing

Your internet-facing systems, tested from the outside.

Internal testing

Your internal network, tested from inside, as an attacker with a foothold would see it.

Exposed services

Ports and services that are open when they should not be.

Passwords and access

Weak, default or shared passwords, and access that is wider than needed.

Missing updates

Systems running software with known weaknesses.

Movement between systems

Whether one weakness leads on to others.

How it works

How does a network penetration test work?

01

Scope and authorise

The systems in scope and the testing window are set out in a written authorisation you sign, alongside an NDA.

02

Map

We map the target and how it is used, so testing covers what matters.

03

Test

We look for weaknesses and confirm, safely, which ones are real.

04

Report

Each finding is rated by severity, with the evidence and the steps to fix it.

05

Re-test

After you fix the issues, one re-test of the fixed issues is included.

Common questions

Network penetration testing: frequently asked questions

What is the difference between internal and external testing?

External network penetration testing starts from the internet and tests your internet-facing systems the way an outside attacker would. Internal testing starts inside your network, the way someone with a foothold, such as an infected laptop, would, and shows whether one weakness leads on to others. Most organisations benefit from both, and Ants Creation’s security team carries out both.

Will it disrupt our network?

Testing follows the systems in scope and the testing window you authorise in writing before anything is tested. Ants Creation’s security team confirms weaknesses safely, and riskier checks can be scheduled outside business hours. If a system is sensitive, tell us when we scope the test, so it can be scheduled with care or left out of scope.

Do you need to be on site?

Not always. External testing is done from the internet. Internal testing can be carried out on site at your premises or through a secure remote connection into your network, as agreed with you when we scope the test. Either way, Ants Creation’s security team works within the scope and testing window in your signed authorisation, under an NDA.

What happens after the report?

The report rates each finding by severity, with the evidence and the steps to fix it, so the most serious issues are fixed first. Your team fixes the issues, with guidance from Ants Creation’s security team if you want it. One re-test of the fixed issues is then included in the engagement, to confirm each issue is closed.
